Pattern Parade - 4

Book - 300
Grouping - Leaf

- Pattern - 18 stitches by 24 rows
- Sample - 36 stitches +2 by 48 + 6 rows

- very plain, "quiet" pattern with lots of blank space based on centre stem of holes and decreases done on outer edge for bottom half of the leaf.

- used as basis of several other patterns to come it would appear where the designs are closer together

- would look nice as the border of a garment knit plain beyond 3 or 5 bands of the leaves.
- use as a transition between other patterns.

Pattern Parade - 1

First pattern in the book so will do a few at least in order. They are grouped in categories so may get tired of the category and will have to mix them up.

Settled on Berroco DK Sport yarn White as I have several balls purchased for a baby shawl and it was not required, it is a reasonable price of $3.99 for 165 meters / 178 yards, and a fairly nice feeling yarn with 50% nylon and 50% acrylic. Using a 4.5 metric / US 7 short circuler Bryspun knitting needle. Working 3 rows of moss stitch top and bottom with 1 slipped stitch on each edge.

Pattern Parade - Intro

So many garments and scarfs and shawls and hats are developed just by picking a stitch pattern. It is how they are combined that makes the big difference. Knowing how a stitch will make up certainly helps to get the mind thinking in the various ways that they could be used.

At the Knitters' Frolic in Toronto I purchased a Japanese pattern book of 300 different patterns. Many of the patterns I haven't seen in the pattern books that I have. So as a break from my big projects, a change of needle and threads from my present knitting, a change in thought patterns and as a challenge for myself, I have started knitting patterns from the book.

It will be interesting to see if I can keep this up and how many I do get made up and what will come of them. I certainly don't intend to stay with the one book but it will hopefully be the main focus.

With so few readers I hope you'll excuse me in this self-indulgent venture and enjoy your visit to this site. Maybe it will challenge you in some way.
